Worrying about my expectations for a Lunar New Year on the last day of the old one is really just too much for me! Every Chinese New Year’s Eve, I feel like the day of reckoning is approaching and wonder how I will stay awake until 12:00. But since it’s the year of the Tiger and the Chinese New Year falls on Feb 14 together with Valentine’s Day I would really like to do something special for you all.
On Sunday, 14 February in the Colonnade restaurant, we will feature a grand buffet with dishes such as double boiled fish maw soup, Cantonese roast duck and suckling pig, Hainan Chicken rice, homemade spring rolls, rainbow beef in lettuce wrap and many more delicacies. We will also serve traditional Chinese dumplings, legend has it that the more dumplings you eat during the New Year celebration, the more money you will make in the New Year. There will also be Nian Gao (glutinous rice cake), in Chinese Nian Gao sounds like "getting higher year by year", so the higher you are, the more prosperous your business is. You should also eat plenty of fish, especially a whole fish which represents togetherness and abundance, and in Chinese the fish sounds like "save more". The Chinese like to save their money as at the end of year, they believe if they have more then they will make more the following year.
On top of all the traditional food to eat over this festival, we will also present you with a sumptuous seafood station with great mounds of colorful claws, Maine lobster, prawns, oysters, clams and mussels.
So, I would like to see you on Feb 14 in the Colonnade to express my enthusiasm for the coming year of the Tiger and the opportunities that lie ahead.
I take this opportunity to thank you for your support throughout a challenging year and "Gongxi facai"!
