The Sukhothai Bangkok proudly introduces its first ever ‘Mixologist Event’ and warmly welcomes Guillermo Gonzalez, Mixologist and leader of HPS - Hiding in Plain Sight Amsterdam to The Zuk Bar where he will be seen shaking Bangkok’s cocktail society!

 

Born in Argentina, raised in the United States and refined in Europe, Guillermo is a former DJ who has been spinning in various bars and clubs around the world for over 20 years, an experience that gave him insight into how to open and run a successful cocktail bar. He settled down at HPS Amsterdam and now uses his tastes and creativity to mix drinks as opposed to records.

 

Hiding in Plain Sight, or HPS as it is commonly called, is a secret society of cocktail lovers hidden on the outskirts of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The bar offers carefully handcrafted cocktails in an elegant yet cozy environment.

 

Moreover, Guillermo Gonzalez will prepare special cocktails to be paired with snacks exclusively for 3-Michelin Star Chef Jacob Jan Boerma’s event which will be held during the same period for both lunch and dinner!

The truly phenomenal 3-Michelin Star Chef Jacob Jan Boerma, head chef and owner of De Leest restaurant in Vaassen, the Netherlands will bring his avant-garde culinary expertise to La Scala and Sunday Brunch at Colonnade, The Sukhothai Bangkok from 22 – 26 July 2015.

 

Having graduated from Stichting Vakopleiding Horeca culinary school, Jacob has been working with many 2 and 3-Michelin Star Chefs across Europe, including Marco Pierre White (UK), Dieter Muller (Germany) and Guy van Cauteren (Belgium), gaining invaluable experience in top restaurants.

 

In the summer of 2002, Jacob and his partner Kim Veldman decided to start their own restaurant “De Leest” paying particular attention to presenting a variety of styles of cuisine from around the world such as Scandinavian, Spanish and Asian, whilst carefully maintaining their Dutch roots.

 

Boerma adheres to his culinary philosophy “do not forget the quality of the product, it is the basis of success”.  He has a passionate interest in the sophisticated flavour of fresh elements and acidity of local ingredients, combined with the latest cooking techniques available.

 

This led him to immense success by gaining his first Michelin star within 6 months, the second star in 2007 and the highest “three stars” in 2013.

 

His talent is reflected by many reputable awards and honourable recognitions. He has been listed among the 50 best chefs of the world at www.lechef.com, GaultMillau Chef of the Year in 2010 and succeeded in his examination for the title of Master Chef - the highest achievement for a chef at the peak of his craftsmanship.

The Sukhothai Bangkok welcomes a new Thai Chef, Rossarin Sriprathum (or Chef Rin) to its award-wining Celadon Thai restaurant. Chef Rin will oversee kitchen operations, the creation of new menus and the selection of premium organic ingredients from the finest suppliers, ensuring discerning guests will be satisfied by the amazing tastes of traditional Thai recipes in addition to its classic styles of presentation.

Born and raised in Thailand, Chef Rin got the inspiration to cook from her grandmothers who are also Thai Chefs and Pâtissiers. She carefully observed how they prepared and cooked the food with recipes using secret techniques, allowing her to explore the culinary world of Thai cuisine from then onwards.

Chef Rin began her journey to becoming a Chef when she was 20 years old. With more than 10 years at The Regent Bangkok, Chef Rin had exclusive experience in presenting traditional Thai cuisine for many Thai food promotions in various countries including Australia, Indonesia, Hong Kong and Japan. Later, she moved to England to be Assistant Head Chef at the renowned Siam House Restaurant and Millennium Hilton Bangkok before joining The Sukhothai Bangkok.

With more than 20 years of experience as a Thai Chef, Chef Rin is trying to maintain the traditional recipes and continue the standard of original Thai taste which is rarely found in other restaurants, even in Bangkok. Chef Chamlong (Jimmy) Pewthaisong is preparing six special seafood dishes, selections from the finest of treasures of the sea - including Soft Shell Crab, Manila Clam, Prawn and Ruby Fish seasoning with the freshest ingredients and herbs. The Sukhothai Bangkok welcomes a new Italian Chef, Antonio Michele Totaro to its iconic Italian restaurant La Scala. Recently voted as one of the top 10 restaurants in Bangkok, Top Table 2014 by BK Magazine, La Scala continues serving delectable Italian cuisine under the supervision of Chef Antonio, providing an authentic Italian experience to discerning diners.

Born and raised in Monte Sant'Angelo in southern Italy, Chef Antonio was inspired by Mediterranean cuisine that specialized in using extra virgin olive oil as a base to bring out the true taste of vegetables and seafood, its two main ingredients.

With over ten years of experience, Chef Antonio has worked in numerous renowned restaurants across Italy and Asia, including legendary 2 Michelin Stars Don Alfonso in Italy. He was also Italian Chef for the opening of Don Alfonso at the Grand Lisboa Hotel in Macau, the first Don Alfonso restaurant outside Italy.

Previously managing well-known Spasso restaurant as an Executive Chef in Hong Kong, Chef Antonio has taken this precious opportunity to come to The Sukhothai Bangkok as he always dreams of letting his talent lead him to work and travel around the world.

“I want guests to feel they are sitting in a fine dining restaurant in Italy. I would like to encourage them to try new ideas here. I believe this is definitely the right direction to go for La Scala as well” Chef Antonio said.
